Manchester City fans not please with Ilkay Gundogan title claim about Liverpool

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan says it would only be “fair” for rivals Liverpool to be awarded the Premier League trophy if the season cannot be completed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Liverpool have a 25-point lead at the top of the Premier League table but their title celebrations are on ice for now amid the ongoing pandemic that has brought much of Europe to its knees.

Asked by ZDF if Liverpool should be handed their first top-flight title for 30 years if the season doesn’t continue, the Manchester City star, a £20 million signing in 2016, said: “For me, that would be okay, yes. You have to be fair as a sportsperson.”

There are different opinions. For clubs who have had a very good season, it obviously wouldn’t be nice if it was cancelled now,” he added.

“On the other hand, for clubs who aren’t doing as well and are maybe in the relegation places, an abandonment would obviously suit them.”

The Premier League season has been suspended until April 30, but it is looking increasingly likely that the date will have to be pushed back further.

Jason Dixon No team should be given anything unless they win it weather it’s winning Leagues or promotions. If any completion is not finished then it has to be null and void. If it takes 2 months or longer to continue the season then resume all the competitions and finish them. If it takes several months Simply cancel next seasons FA cup and League cup then next season champions League make it shorter. We have a chance of winning the treble which most people Seem to be forgetting.
