Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that Manchester City are performing their due diligence surrounding a possible pursuit of Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
Messi has been linked with a move to the Etihad in the past, but the club has never made a genuine attempt to sign him – acknowledging his unique bond with the Catalans. The Citiens are one of the few suitors who could feasibly sign the 33-year-old striker.
Pep Guardiola has stated on more than one occasion that he hasn’t thought about signing Messi because he’s convinced he will “finish his career at Barcelona.”
According to ESPN, City have always followed Messi’s situation closely and are seriously looking into the costs involved in the deal given the current panoramic.
The report adds that “City’s finances are under the microscope more than ever” as a result. The club’s hierarchy may shy away from spending lavishly on a star such as Messi, lest they face another battle with UEFA.
Messi’s current contract expires in June 2021, but it reportedly includes a clause that allows him to leave at the end of any given season should he allow Barcelona a one-month notice in advance.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Chief, Many City supporters have flocked to expressed their thoughts and opinions on this latest update

Oh my, Messi in the premier League would be so dope.— Stanley Stander (@StanStan30) August 24, 2020
Imagine we sign messi and we can’t actually go to the stadium to watch him.— Marshall 💯 (@MarshaIIMCFC) August 24, 2020
We are never paying that much. The problem is even if it were a free transfer his wages are €70-80M per year and we would also have to pay a huge signing-on bonus— Abhishek24 (@AbhishekSpace24) August 24, 2020
I agree we dont need him. He’ll be so expensive and thats not city’s style. Buy a unbranded great player and make him even better. Like DeBruyne— L8TUN77 (@L8TUN77) August 24, 2020
