Despite the £41m capture of Ake from Bournemouth already, defender still remain the priority with Kalidou Koulibaly the main target.
The Citizens have been trying to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli for much of the transfer window. It’s been a hard fight, with the Serie A club’s president wanting a huge fee and being unrealistic regarding his prospects of getting it.
Accoding to AS, the Premier League club have offered €89 million plus €5 million in bonuses to Atletico Madrid for central defender Jose Maria Gimenez, which is more than they reportedly wanted to pay for Koulibaly.
The reports adds Atlético have reiterated that they do not want to sell Giménez and have referred to his substantial €120 million release clause.
Man City sources have confirmed the bid for Jose Maria Giménez, however the club have received a ‘no’ from Atlético Madrid. It is a case of paying the release clause, or not signing the player.

Please be true.. Sick and tired of koulibaly news, he’s too old and to expensive.. Rather pay more for a younger cb like Gimenez who in my opinion is better👏🏽

Can’t be true. So we won’t pay €70m for Koulibaly but will spend €89 on Gimenez 🤔

If you believe city will pay 89 million for gimenez you’re deluded,Sam lee told before that City enquired about Jose Maria Jimenez before and the price was way too much and the deal broke…..no way they are gonna go back, source is shit too
