Manchester City were touted as rivals to Arsenal for Houssem Aouar’s signature earlier in the summer transfer window, with Pep Guardiola reportedly desperate to steal Frenchman away from former assistant Mikel Arteta.
The 22-year-old, Who has been very impressive for Lyon over the last two seasons has been tracked by the Citizens for 18 months, but they have not had any discussions with Lyon about signing him so far this summer.
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that his side will not be looking to sign any central midfielders before the transfer window giving Arsenal a boost in their chase for the Frenchman.
Speaking ahead of City’s season opener at Wolves on Monday, Guardiola when asked about Thiago Alcantara’s imminent arrival at Liverpool told reporters: “I wasn’t trying to sign him [Thiago] at Man City because we have enough players in this position. I am happy that Thiago comes to England because England is going to enjoy a really good player. Phil [Foden] can play in that position, striker as well and wingers…”
