Manchester City chiefs are fuming with Atletico Madrid after the Spanish side claimed a £78m transfer bid had been launched by Guardiola’s side for defender Jose Giménez.
Gimenez, 25, has been linked with a move to City and AS reported earlier this month that Atletico had turned down a big-money offer from the Premier League club.
La Liga club’s president Enrique Cerezo confirmed the La Liga giants had received an offer of £78 million (€85m/$99m) as quoted by goal from City, but wanted to keep the defender.
“We did receive the offer,” he told El Transistor.
“But Gimenez is a magnificent player and we are interested in having magnificent players in the team.”
City were surprised to hear about the offer for the 25-year-old and that no bid has been made.
According to SkySports, City have interest in the player but no bid has been made yet. They won’t be paying that kind of money for anyone.

Why would we sign Gimenez when he’s extremely injury prone and used to a defensive system, and KK when he’s 29, overpriced and off the back of a really bad season, and also is poor in the air?— KevTheGOAT (@Ethan73918517) September 24, 2020
