Man City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays a report that claims the club has identify their dream signing after pulling out of a move for Napoli star centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Citizens have been trying to sign Koulibaly for much of the transfer window. It’s been a hard fight, with the Serie A club’s president wanting a huge fee and being unrealistic regarding his prospects of getting it.
City are reported to already have personal terms with the player but are refusing to match Aurelio de Laurentiis’ huge asking price for the defender. It is understood City had offered as much as £70m, leaving the two clubs apart in terms of the final fee.
They have now stopped talks in that direction and had been looking at Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez as an option. Recent reports had even suggested that City have had a bid of £78 million (€85m/$99m) turned down for Giménez. But as per SkySports no bid has been made yet and the club won’t be paying that kind of money for anyone.
According to Sport Italia via Insidefutbol, City have decided to wait until next summer to sign Gimenez. They are now urgently looking at other options and it is claimed that their dream signing is RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano.
Upamecano signed a new contract at RB Leipzig recently which runs until 2023 and the club are keen to keep hold of him until next summer, but Manchester City could test their resolve.
The reports adds Sevilla’s Jules Kounde is also on City’s radar and discussions over a deal are ongoing. Recent reports indicate that City have reached an agreement over personal terms with the Frenchman – it’s now a case of negotiating a deal to get their man.

Just get Upamecano, whether that’s this or next I don’t mind… just secure him and we don’t need to touch our defence for 5 years partnered with Laporte

Kounde incoming, I have a stong feeling Friday it’ll be confirmed

Wait what? Ake 25, Laporte and Stones 26, and if we get Kounde or Upa they’re 21, our defense is secured for the next 5-10 years, why would we buy Giminez when he’s 25 as well

Having multiple targets alive is a good way to make the prices drop. Txiki is playing it really well there. Love it.
