Kevin de Bruyne has withdrawn from Belgium’s squad for Wednesday’s Nations League game against Iceland with an unspecified injury and returned to his club Manchester City, the Belgian national team said.
De Bruyne was substituted by Belgium manager Roberto Martinez during their Nations League defeat to England.
The Belgium manager however claims De Bruyne asked for the substitution in the second half.
“I would not say that Kevin is injured. He said he felt something. It is too early to know what he has, but he did not feel a hundred percent. It was rather a precautionary change,” Martinez said.
According to the Belgian national team on Twitter, Kevin de Bruyne has returned to his club as he is not fit enough to play against Iceland.
