‘No Mendy, no problem’ – Man City fans react to Joao Cancelo’s performance against Arsenal

Manchester City fans were impressed with Joao Cancelo’s brilliant performance in an inverted full-back role against Arsenal in the premier Leaque on saturday.

City picked up their second win of the season after Raheem Sterling’s first-half goal was enough for Pep Guardiola to get one over his old assistant Mikel Arteta’s.

Playing in an inverted full-back role on the right, Cancelo did well to marshal the unconventional system and help City in recording their first clean sheet of the season.

Coming back from injury, The 26-year-old Worked back hard from his wide-right role to help contain Aubameyang but did get caught out by smart runs off him by Saka on a couple of occasions.

He was Booked for catching Tierney in the back of his leg with his studs, but did well in attack, putting pressure on Arsenal, though struggled to keep track of players when defending.

The Portuguese Best moment came when he tricked his way past Tierney and nearly forced David Luiz to turn in his low cross.

City will probably need Joao Cancelo as cover in both full-back positions over the next few weeks, especially with Benjamin Mendy’s latest setback. But he’s been very effective in his midfield role, covering in defence and popping up as another body in attack. It’s another wildcard option for Guardiola.
