‘We are already in the last 16’ – Man City fans reacts to Champions League group stage draw

Man City fans are delighted after their Champions League group draw which has seen them avoid European giants Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, or Juventus.

City were handed an almost perfect Champions League group stage draw. This season, City will face F.C. Porto, Olympiacos, and Marseille.

City couldn’t have asked for a better draw so far. Teams they should beat, they’ve avoided opponents that have caused them trouble in the past, and Porto, Marseille and Olympiacos won’t pose too much travel issues for the squad.

Unlike in previous years, the draw took place behind closed doors due to Covid-19 restrictions, with only key UEFA staff and guests participating. The group phase for this year’s competition is set to start on 20 October with the final match day planned for 9 December.

City will be looking to end their European hoodoo this season after Pep Gurdiola’s side were knocked out at the quarter-final stage by Lyon during the final tournament in Lisbon last time around.

City have been knocked out at the quarter-final stage in the last three seasons. In 2018 they were smashed 5-1 on aggregate by Liverpool while in 2019 lose to Tottenham with dramatic late VAR twist.
