‘We don’t want decent, we want world class’ – Fans react to Man City’s interest in €40M-rated star as Aguero’s replacement

Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports of the club’s interest in Benfica striker Darwin Núñez as a potential Sergio Aguero’s replacement.

Agüero’s peak is clearly coming to its end and there are concerns at the Etihad that Gabriel Jesus is not of the level required to be the Argentine’s replacement.

The challenge of replacing Agüero is certainly one of the problem areas of the Man City squad. The City’s record goal scorer will enter the final year of his contract this summer and there hasn’t been any indication that he will pen fresh terms at the Etihad Stadium.

According to Sunday Telegraph, City manager Pep Guardiola has made finding a successor to Argentina striker Sergio Aguero, 32, a priority and Benfica’s Uruguay forward Darwin Nunez, 21, is on his shortlist.

The youngster is reported to be a target for Barcelona as they search for a replacement for Luis Suarez who left Camp Nou for Atletico Madrid

Nunez only joined Segunda side Almeria for the start of last season from Uruguay’s Penarol – where he plundered 16 goals to 30 league appearances to earn admiration all across Europe.

He became Benfica’s most expensive signing when he arrived from Almeria in a €24 million deal in September.

Mundo Deportivo (h/t Football Espana) say Benfica have slapped a €40m (£35.9m) asking price on Nunez’s head, but manager Jorge Jesus believes he will be the club’s most-expensive sale. Nunez looks a talented player who would improve our squad, but he won’t come cheap.

In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Chief and Man City Xtra, many Man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
