It was a short-lived stay at the North Yorkshire outfit for the 29-year-old, who promptly returned to Atalanta and has since stepped up his game.
The Holland international has caught the attention of Premier League clubs since Atalanta’s journey last season to the Champions League semi-finals.
According to 90min_Football, City considered a move for him ahead of this season had Ilkay Gundogan moved on but the German stayed put in the end.
The report claims that the Citizens remain interested in the mildflielder, but would not consider an approach until the summer. Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping tabs on the midfielder.
Being the metronome of Atalanta’s midfield, the 29-year-old has been instrumental behind his side’s recent surge in both the Serie A and European competitions. The Dutch international was regular in the Euro Qualifiers last year.
