Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has emphatically ruled out starting Sergio Aguero in Saturday’s derby against United despite his goalscoring return to action in the Champions League.
The Argentine scored 10 minutes after coming on as a substitute in the 3-0 victory over French side Marseille in the Champions League.
Pep Guardiola when asked if Aguero could start the derby, the City boss simply said: ‘No.’
‘His instinct to score will always be there. He’s had three or four training sessions and the reaction was good,’ he added.
‘He had 25 minutes and scored a goal. Step by step. Will see the reaction tomorrow.’
The Argentinian missed the beginning of the season after having knee surgery in the summer and suffered a further setback with a hamstring injury shortly after his comeback.
Aguero took to Twitter after the game and wrote: ‘Happy to be back, happy for the win. My knee is feeling better and I’m gradually getting back into condition.
My gratitude goes to the physios, the medical and technical staff, my team-mates and the fans for all your support.’

Makes sense. Due to injuries he needs to be eased in not rushed in.

Makes sense tbh he has just come back from a huge series of setbacks, needs to be eased in not playing the full 90 in one of the toughest games of the season

trouble is Aguero is almost never good on his return from injury. Probably a few away from being ready to start a game

Did anyone think he would? He may well play later, especially if we happen to be not doing too well. Don’t want to rush things, take it easy.
