Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali has affirmed that the Serie A outfit are not prepared to let Manchester City-linked midfielder Manuel Locatelli leave this month.
The $38.50m-rated midfielder has developed into one of the best central midfielders in Serie A. Despite a decent two seasons with Sassuolo, Locatelli could be set for a big move.
The Daily Mail reported this week reported that City are already eyeing up a summer deal for the Sassuolo ace.
While Gazzetta dello Sport later confirm the Citizens are monitoring Locatelli, but their interest has yet turn into a real attempt to acquire him.
Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali has insisted that the club will not entertain offers for such a crucial player in January.
“Seeing Sassuolo players in the headlines is a positive thing, as it means our team and players have been doing well to attract attention,” he said on RAI Sport,.
“We have many players who are of interest to many, including Locatelli, but any issue will be only discussed in January. When it comes to important players like Locatelli, we won’t even take into consideration any proposal that would involve him leaving mid-season.”
Locatelli’s agent, Stefano Castelnuovo also has confirmed interest from Manchester City but accept the Italian Club are highly unlikely to sell him in January.
“Sassuolo is unlikely to sell in the January market. Manchester City are one of the teams that are monitoring him for the next market…” he said on Tv Dello sport
Locatelli, who primarily operates as a defensive midfielder, is contracted with the Serie A club until the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by Man City Xtra, many Man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
This is good news, if he’s saying this then it means they’ll be willing to sell him in the summer and that’s when we’ll go for him

Guardiola is interested in Bennacer for ages, but City probably doesnt want to have next Algierian player, because of quite weird fanbase. Romano has said about Zakaria a month ago and reportedly City is interested in him. But from interest to transfer is a long, long path.

Manchester City will surely be in the market for a new striker at the end of the season, but other areas will be targeted for strengthening.
A new holding midfielder may be needed given that Fernandinho is out of contract and could leave on a free transfer.
Replacing Fernandinho is not going to be an easy task but Locatelli could help fill the void if he will leave. The Italian is a Pep Guardiola player through and through.
