Ian Wright believes Erling Haaland could break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goal record if he joins Manchester City.
The Norwegian striker, who has been heavily linked with a move to Etihad, is one of Europe’s hottest properties and his performance in its biggest competition this year could influence his next step.
Despite moving to Borussia Dortmund just twelve months ago, every major European club has him on their radar with Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea also credited with keen interest in the Norway international
Wright already thinks the youngster would have the potential to break Alan Shearer’s record as the all-time top scorer in the Premier League if he moved to the Etihad Stadium.
“You see Alan Shearer’s record, you see if they do get someone like Erling Haaland at City, then you start to feel like, Shearer’s record is in danger. It is in danger,” Wright said on his podcast Wrighty’s House.
It’s clear that Haaland is already one of the best strikers in the world, Manchester City may be wise to make a big-money move for the star this summer.
The striker has 17 goals in 17 league games this season and a total of 43 goals in 43 appearances for Dortmund since he joined from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020.
The Norway international would be the perfect replacement for Sergio Aguero as the Citizens have to start planning for life without their record scorer, a fact which has been made more evident in the last few months.
