‘Good opportunity for him’, ‘future is in safe hands’ – Fans reacts as Guardiola confirm new first-team squad member for next season

Pep Guardiola has confirme Liam Delap will be promoted to the Manchester City first-team squad on a full-time basis next season.

The 18-year-old academy striker made his Premier League debut earlier this season scoring in a 2-1 victory in the League Cup against Bournemouth back in September.

His future looks extremely bright with report from Daily Star last week claiming Real Madrid were keeping a close eye on Delap – who remains under contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2023.

Pep Guardiola says the stand-out academy talent will be training with the first-team squad “every day” from next season rather than be sent out on loan.

“Liam is training with us this season, like the first season with Brahim (Diaz) and Phil. Jadon (Sancho) did not accept,” Guardiola said.

“Liam, like (James) McAtee, (Cole) Palmer, and Luke Mbete… many players training and doing well. We are in touch with (EDS coach Enzo) Maresca and talking about how they are developing,” he added.

“It’s training with us and next season he’ll be with us next season, training every day.”

Delap is proving to be a bit of a goal machine at the Etihad Stadium. He has now found the net 20 times for the under-23s in just 15 appearances.

In reaction to the news shared on Twitter by City Xtra, many Man City fans have been sharing their thoughts and opinions.
