Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays a report which claims the club is ‘interested’ in Benfica left-back Álex Grimaldo.

The full-back spot in particular remains an issue throughout Pep Guardiola’s time at the club, with Benjamin Mendy failing to push his game on.

The French international has had his fair share of troubles with recurrent injuries coupled with poor form and is starting to turn into a liability for Pep Guardiola.

The use of Zinchenko and the recent form of Joao Cancelo may have provided yet another short-term solution, but a competent true left-back is needed at the club.

According to Fichajes, as relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City have three options at left-back ahead of the summer window: Bayern Munich’s David Alaba and Valencia’s José Gayà – who ‘stand out’ according to the report, as well as a third option and that’s Benfica Álex Grimaldo.

The report states that City are ‘interested in acquiring’ the 25-year-old’s services and will want to take advantage of the fact the player wants to leave the Portuguese club in the summer.

The report claims Pep Guardiola likes the former Barcelona academy star a lot is and has asked the hierarchy at the City Football Academy to Benfica left-back.

The €22m-rated defender has two goals and six assists in 22 league appearances this season for Benfica.

It remains to be seen what City do in the summer, but it’s clear they need a new left back with neither Benjamin Mendy or Oleksandr Zinchenko completely convincing in recent seasons.

In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by Man City Xtra, many Man City fans have have been expressing their thoughts and opinions.
