‘Good option on a free’ – Fans reacts as Man City ‘made contact’ with Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand

Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays a report that claims the club have ‘made contact’ with Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand, who is out of contract this summer.

The 31-year-old left back, who has been with the Saints permanently since 2015, has not renewed his contract with Southampton, meaning clubs will be able to pursue him without a transfer fee.

The full-back spot in particular remains an issue throughout Pep Guardiola’s time at the club, with Benjamin Mendy failing to push his game on.

The French international has had his fair share of troubles with recurrent injuries coupled with poor form and is starting to turn into a liability for Pep Guardiola.

The use of Zinchenko and the recent form of Joao Cancelo may have provided yet another short-term solution, but a competent true left-back is needed at the club.

According to Goal, Premier League leaders Manchester City have also made contact with Bertrand, who is in talks with the Gunners, as well as Milan and Monaco, about a move this summer.

The £9m-valued left-back joined Chelsea’s youth setup in 2005 and went on to make a series of loan moves. He played 57 times for the Blues before joining Southampton on loan in July 2014. After impressing coaches at St Mary’s he earned a permanent move the following February.

He’s made 240 appearances for the Saints in total, scoring eight goals.

In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by Man City Xtra, many Man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
