Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola heaped praise on Ferran Torres suggesting he could fill Sergio Aguero’s boots next season after the Spain forward scored a hat-trick, securing the Premier League champions a 4-3 victory at Newcastle United on Friday.
City twice fought back from a goal down and extended the gap at the top of the table to 13 points. That was City’s 12th consecutive victory in an away league game – a record in English football.
Torres, who signed from La Liga club Valencia for 20 million pounds ($28.20 million) last August, scored once in the first half of the game and twice in the second, taking his total goal tally for City this season to 13.
“He was fantastic all season and an incredible signing for us,” Guardiola said of the 21-year-old. “He’s a young player and can play in three positions up front.
With City’s all-time record goalscorer Aguero leaving the club at the end of the season, Guardiola talked up Torres’s ability to fill the void left by the Argentine.
“He can make incredible runs in behind but maybe we have to start to think about if he can play as a striker because every time he plays in that position he has a sense for goal, a real sense for goal.”
“Maybe we buy a striker, maybe not. We have a guy [Ferran Torres], he’s young. A good transfer. I can use him left, right, striker. The season is too long, we can’t play just 11 players, the best striker we can buy can’t play all the minutes…”
“You have to have 50, 60, 70 top players you want, then the academy, we have two, three, four so interesting players I’m pretty sure next season will help us.”
These Guardiola’s comments have got some Man City fans talking, who took to the social media to express yours thoughts and opinions.

Just listened and I think he said 15, 16, 17. That certainly makes more sense, lol.

Only Torres. Gabriel Jesus should leave the club he nevers helps in attack. Delap instead of Gabriel Jesus for the next season 😀
