‘Baller’, ‘2nd best talent in the academy’ – Man City fans reacts as the club opened talks with rising youngster said to be ‘next Foden’

Some Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club have open contract talks with teen whizz James McAtee said by coaches to be ‘next Foden’.

After joining the Blues’ set-up at Platt Lane seven years ago, the players James McAtee looked up to and saw shining in a similar position as his own game developed were Foden and Brahim Diaz.

McAtee has been compared to Phil Foden for his promising performances in the Man City Under-23 side, last season scoring eight goals and providing nine assists in 23 Premier League 2 appearances.

In comparison, Foden managed six goals and five assists in his 2017-18 Premier League 2 campaign

The 18 year-old has been constantly mentioned by Pep Guardiola throughout the season as one of the players who has been training with the first team on a regular basis. Learning with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan, it’s clear the midfielder has everything he needs at his disposal. 

According to Football Insider, the Premier League champions have opened talks with the rising 18-year-old attacking midfielder over a new contract, and are ‘keen’ to tie him to a ‘new and improved’ deal.

Foden is an example to youngsters in the youth system at Man City that there is a pathway into the first team and McAtee is sure to be one to look out for in the future as he hopes to follow in Foden’s footsteps.

Born in Salford in 2002, McAtee has represented England at youth level and capped off the season just finished with a Premier League 2 winners’ medal.

In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Xtra, many Man City fans have been expressing their thoughts and opinions.
