Liam Delap has been named the Premier League 2’s Player of the Season after an excellent campaign at Under-23 level.

Delap has enjoyed a remarkable year in the Elite Development Squad, with his 24 goals helping to fire Manchester City towards their first Premier League 2 title.

The 18-year-old’s goal tally also set a record for most goals scored in a single campaign and he will be hoping that form leads to yet more first-team opportunities next season.

“It’s been an unbelievable year for me personally and for the team,” Delap said.

“To have broken the competition record for the most goals in a PL2 season is something I would never have imagined possible, and for it to help us win the title makes it even better.

“I couldn’t have done it without my teammates and the success we’ve had shows how good they have been.

“I’d like to thank the Academy staff, my coaches, friends, family and the fans for all their support. It means so much.”

Delap is one of City’s most exciting youth prospects. And next season could see the teenager play more first-team minutes after dominating Premier League 2.

He scored on his debut for Pep Guardiola in the Carabao Cup victory over Bournemouth in September and went on to make two more appearances for the Premier League champions.

Although his future is uncertain, City fans on social media were buzzing for Delap. Indeed, the teenager is highly rated amongst supporters, and they are keen to see the youngster have a chance in the first-team for the 2021/22 season.

Here’s what some City fans had to say on Twitter about Delap winning the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award.
