Felix Nmecha has followed in the footsteps of his older brother Lukas and completed a deal with Wolfsburg.
Felix, the younger of the two Nmecha brothers, was out of contract at Manchester City this summer, and the club decided against renewing his deal in order to give him a better opportunity to further his career elsewhere.
Like his brother, Felix Nmecha was born in Hamburg. In 2008 he moved to Manchester City, where he progressed through all the youth teams and made the step up to men’s football.
He made his first-team debut under Pep Guardiola on 23 January 2019, in the Citizens’ 1-0 win in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg at Burton Albion.
Last season, he made one further appearance in the FA Cup as well as a substitute appearance in the UEFA Champions League group stage match at home to Olympiacos on 3 November 2020, in which he set up the final goal in a 3-0 victory.
He had been a key member of the under-23 and under-18 squads in recent years. However, with plenty of competition in attacking areas at academy level, the decision was taken to release the England youth international.
He’s now completed a move to Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, where he will link up once again with brother Lukas, who has recently completed an £11m transfer from City.
Felix Nmecha has been given the number 20 shirt by the Green-and-Whites, and he’ll train with his new teammates for the first time on Thursday at the training camp in Bad Waltersdorf in Austria.
In reaction to the news shared on Twitter by City Xtra, Many Man City fans have been expressing their thoughts and opinions.
