Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says new signing Jack Grealish was “excellent” on his debut, despite his side losing 1-0 at Tottenham.
Grealish made his competitive debut at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. He showed flashes of quality, and forced Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris into a decent second-half save.
City’s starting line-up on Sunday gave no greater clue as to where Grealish’s puzzle piece will slot in. He started in a sort of front four that included no out-and-out striker.
Sterling, Grealish, Ferran Torres and Riyad Mahrez spread across the front line – but was afforded the licence to drop back, float around. Maybe, sometimes, if a formation is too fluid the game will slip through your fingers.
It will be an adaptation process for Grealish at City, but Guardiola was delighted with the former Aston Villa forward.“He is so dangerous close to the box,” Guardiola said.
“When we have the ball he always has an extra pass. He had an incredible debut and will be so important for us. I congratulate him for having the personality to try and try until the end.”
These Guardiola’s comment has prompt Plenty of Sky Blues to react on social media.

Put him where you played Sterling. Bench Sterling or sell him please. We wont win anything with that guy and Mendy 🙄
