Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is convinced over £150m deal for Tottenham star Harry Kane after refusing to enter Lionel Messi stakes.
Kane has been heavily linked with a move to the Etihad this summer and remains Pep Guardiola’s top target.
speculation around his future has only heightened this week after he failed to appear at Hotspur Way for training with his team-mates as he had been expected to do.
Spurs are keen to retain his services and have suggested that it would take a British transfer record bid to convince them to sell their star striker to the Etihad Stadium.
City’s lack of a natural goal-scoring striker in the absence of the recently departed Sergio Aguero could force the club to break the British transfer record twice in one summer, after splashing £100 million on Jack Grealish this week.
According to journalist James Robson for the Evening Standard, Manchester City remain ‘convinced’ that they will sign Harry Kane – even if a deal cannot be struck before the start of the season.
Robson claims Man City have ‘refused’ to enter negotiations for Lionel Messi to focus attentions on a potential £150M deal for Kane.
The report adds that while it is accepted that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will drive a hard bargain for Harry Kane, City remain ‘relaxed’ about letting negotiations carry on into the start of the season.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Xtra, many Man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.

I’m guessing that means we will do a player plus cash deal, hopefully that player is Jesus and not Laporte or Silva
— Ali Saain (@ali_saain) August 9, 2021
Yes but we still need a striker, not just for goals but as someone who convert's the chances we create..

Kdb messi grealish foden are all creative players, not really finishers ( even though they score alot)
We need a penalty box player who will score tap ins
why are we relaxing. Sign him asap. I don't wanna get beaten by Norwich

I don't understand why we don't have a plan B @ManCity

Man Messi would score and assist more than what kane ll do over 2 season. The most stupid decision

That seems beyond stupid to me. Get Messi at false 9 he scored 50 goals in La Liga under Pep playing false 9, sell 1 or two players, then bring in Haaland and convert Messi back to the wing. Such a missed opportunity

We need to enter negotiations for Messi, his commercial values will be great addition to the revenue of the club.
