Lionel Messi has reportedly chosen to join Paris Saint-Germain following the shock announcement that he would not be signing a new deal at Barcelona.
Despite wanting to remain at Barcelona, Messi has been forced to seek pastures new as he cannot be re-registered or sign the contract due to the club exceeding La Liga’s wage limit.
This news opened the door for other top European clubs to make their move, with Man City and PSG both heavily linked and the most likely to be able to afford the Argentine superstar’s wages.
Pep Guardiola’s City were the first club to be linked with Messi last year when the Argentine looked to be on his way out last year, but a move failed to materialise courtesy of Josep Maria Bartomeu
Reports on Thursday claimed that PSG are leading the charge for Messi, who is said to already be in negotiations with the French side and that the pair are trying to make a financial settlement.
Spanish media outlet Marca on Friday Morning reported Manchester City is Messi’s preferred choice despite interest from French outfit Paris Saint-Germain.
However, despite being linked with a free transfer offer for Messi, Guardiola in a news conference on Friday stated he is not in the club’s plans ahead of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign.
According to Paris-based journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi, Messi has chosen to join the French giants on a two year deal with an option for a third.
The report claims the French giants hope to wrap up the signing over the weekend and is set to meet with the Barcelona legend’s father Jorge in the ‘next few hours’.
Another Journalist Marcelo Bechler, Man City did not make any ‘approach’ for Lionel Messi, who now appears close to joining PSG.
In reaction to the report, many Man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.

Would have been great for the club in terms of growth, but the fact we can turn away from a deal like this shows how big we’ve become.
