‘Should never play again’, ‘Officially worse than Mangala’ – Many Man City fans slam Mendy for his performance against Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester City fans are furious with left-back Benjamin Mendy after his performance in this evening’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

City lost their opening Premier League clash for the first time in over a decade when Son Heung-min’s strike in the 55th minute sealed opening day victory for new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Benjamin Mendy’s performance against Tottenham Hotspur has come under fire his involvement in the game’s only goal.

The former Monaco man was regularly targeted by Tottenham and regularly beaten as the home side found a way past or through him far too often.

He couldn’t handle Son and Moura, who kept peeling out to his flank and Spurs got a lot of joy down City’s left.

The France international did not look comfortable, losing ten of his 14 duels, being dribbled past four times, losing the ball on 16 occasions and finding a team-mate with just one of his nine crosses (Sofascore).

The Frenchman didn’t offer much going forward either and was substituted for Oleksandr Zinchenko late in the game.

In reaction to Mendy’s display, plenty of Sky Blues took to twitter to express their disappointment, with some fans even calling him a ‘liability’ and others claiming he is ‘one of the worst LB’s in the world’.
