Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy is optimistic about the coming season and is feeling ‘great’ after finally overcoming his injury hell.
Man City paid £50 million to Monaco for Benjamin Mendy in 2017 but number of injury problems have prevented him from ever establishing himself as a regular under Guardiola.
The Frenchman struggled for game time last season over the impressive Joao Cancelo and rejuvenated Oleksandr Zinchenko.
The former Monaco man made 20 appearances last season as he enjoyed his longest run without a serious injury lay off and is now hoping to push on even more this season.
Mendy has started every match of the Blues’ pre-season so far and could even potentially start the season as first-choice left-back with Kyle Walker and Aleks Zinchenko yet to return to action following their participation in Euro 2020.
Speaking after Tuesday’s dominant 4-1 win over Blackpool, Mendy provided an update on how he is feeling physically going into the campaign.
“I feel sharp, I feel good, I feel great,” he told City’s in-house media. “We need to keep going like that for the rest of the season.
“It [summer break] was a nice time, I would have preferred to do the Euro but it’s like this and we look on the future, we are ready for the season.
“I took one or two weeks of holidays but after I was working with my physio, my trainer and do some recovery to come back ready.
“I feel a lot better. Before, it was not easy, I was coming back and feeling some pain. But it’s the past and now I’m happy and it’s going to be a great season.”
These Mendy’s comment has prompt Plenty of Sky Blues to react on social media.
Redemption Time.

Mendy’s stock may have fallen but there is a degree of excitement around him after three solid pre-season performances against Championship opposition.
The Frenchman’s biggest challenge might simply be staying fit. If he has the advantage at the moment at left-back it could easily be surrendered with another spell on the treatment table, something which has defined a City career that has been a lot more stop than it has start.
