‘Please let’s not bottle this’, ‘The board owes us’, ‘Get it done’ – Fans reacts as Man City Lead Race for Erling Haaland

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is ‘currently in pole position’ to sign Erling Haaland.

Pep Guardiola and Khaldoon Al Mubarak both spoke at the beginning of the summer about the need to strengthen the squad and keep things fresh, with the chairman telling supporters to expect multiple signings.

However Manchester City had a relatively quiet summer transfer window with just three players signed by the reigning Premier League champions. The £100m arrival of Jack Grealish is the only major addition to a group that has said goodbye to Sergio Aguero

Tottenham striker Harry Kane was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City but the two clubs failed to agree on a fee and last week the Spurs striker confirmed that he won’t be moving away from North London this summer.

City also entered talks with Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes, but once Manchester United entered the race, there was only ever going to be one outcome.

It won’t come as a surprise if the Premier League winners decide to make it a priority to sign a new striker, either in January or next summer, and they could be in contention for Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is the big-name option, although Borussia Dortmund would not be keen on letting their main man go mid-season.

The Norwegian goal machine is one of the most exciting young talents in world football at the moment and will surely be earning a big move to one of Europe’s super-clubs before too long, and it may be City are in the strongest position to strike a deal.

To prise him away could cost as much as €150million, whereas if City wait until next summer, they could trigger a £65m release clause in his contract.

According to Bild, Pep Guardiola’s side are ‘currently in pole position’ to land the Borussia Dortmund frontman.

The report claims City will have the financial means [to afford his transfer fee, wages and agent commission] to land Haaland, but say Guardiola ‘would have to choose’ whether to sign the BVB star or make another approach for Kane.

In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Xtra, many Man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.

City now head into the season without an experienced number nine, with Ferran Torres still learning the tricks of the trade and Pep Guardiola understandably reluctant to throw youngster Liam Delap in at the deep end.
