Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes Ferran Torres has attacking movement similar to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, and jokingly said he must “eat a lot of soup” in order to achieve the same as Leicester City forward.
Torres has had a bright start to the new campaign, scoring four goals in his last four appearances for club and country to make a strong case for his new role.
The Spaniard thrilled fans inside the Etihad Stadium with a Man of the Match display scoring two goals against Arsenal before the international break. His movement for both goals was excellent, and it’s something the manager has stated on multiple occasions.
The formal Valencia star scored his 10th international goal to help Spain to a 2-0 victory over Kosovo in World Cup qualifying.
Speaking to the press ahead of Saturday’s trip to the King Power Stadium, Guardiola was keen to state that he is not comparing the two forwards and believes the 21-year-old Spaniard still has some way to go to match the achievements of 34-year-old Vardy.
“I didn’t compare Ferran Torres with Jamie Vardy. I said Ferran has quite similar movements. Ferran has to eat a lot of soup at dinnertime to be compared with Jamie Vardy and what he has done in his career,” Guardiola said on Friday.
“Ferran has just started, Vardy has done amazing things and I am a big fan of him as a striker. I made the comment because Vardy likes to make the movement in behind. Normally strikers don’t, but Ferran also likes to make that movement in behind.”
In reaction to this Pep Guardiola’s comments shared on Twitter by Man City Xtra, many City fans have been expressing their thoughts and opinions.
Pep just likes to use press conferences to mess with everyone 😎

Torres is a great striker/ forward player, he dont need to be Vardy, he just has to be himself and keep improving. Vardy is a great striker, but he will be Torres in Pep’s style of play.

Vardy is a prime example of what hard work and determination can achieve, having worked his way into professional football via non-league after being released by Sheffield Wednesday as a youngster.
The 34-year-old Yorkshireman was a key player in the Foxes’ title-winning season, scoring 24 times as Leicester lifted the Premier League trophy.
Whilst the Guardiola admitted to being a “big fan” of Vardy, it is almost certain that the Foxes striker is also a fan of playing against Guardiola’s teams.
Vardy has scored eight goals against Man City in the last five years, including a hat-trick in the surprise 5-2 win at the Etihad Stadium last season.
