Manchester City and Manchester United are among the Premier League clubs demanding an emergency meeting after the controversial Newcastle United takeover was completed.
The north east club are heading into a new era after a £305m deal was struck up with Saudi-backed investors, ending Mike Ashley’s 14-year ownership of the Magpies.
The £305million deal — led by Saudi’s £700billion Public Investment Fund (PIF) has met with fierce opposition from their top-flight rivals in the 24 hours since its completion.
According to a report in The Guardian, Premier League clubs including Manchester City are demanding an emergency meeting next week as they prepare to reflect their views to the division’s governing body.
However, the article adds that the would-be meeting is not to derail the takeover, as such because it is too late – rather a reflection of how high feelings are running.
Indeed, the parties involved have already issued the green light in that respect but are demanding to know why a consortium allowed to buy out Ashley was waved through.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Chief, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
