Manchester City are reportedly lining up for a shot at luring Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger away from Stamford Bridge.
The German international, who moved from Roma to Chelsea in 2017 at a fee of $40 million, has become one of the fundamental pieces to Chelsea’s backline since his arrival.
He is out of contract at the end of the season and yet to agree a new deal with Chelsea. Rudiger will be free to speak to foreign clubs from January 1 if no extension is agreed.
The 28-year-old has received a lot of interest from a variety of clubs in Europe’s top five leagues, with Man City reportedly showing a particular interest.
According to Italian sports journalist Gianluca di Marzio, who has a credible record in transfer markets, Manchester City are one of the clubs rivalling for the signature of the Chelsea centre-back.
“Rudiger is in talks with Juventus, Man City, Tottenham and even PSG, who still need a defender. It’s difficult to see him signing a new contract. He will join one of the four teams mentioned,” Di Marzio told German media outlet Wetten Freunde.
It is understood that Rudiger is frustrated with the salary Chelsea have offered so far and their lack of effort to offer him a deal he thinks he deserves.
It does come as a bit of a surprise that Guardiola is eyeing another centre-back despite being loaded with defenders, unless the Etihad side is looking at the Chelsea star as a replacement for someone like Aymeric Laporte.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Chief, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters, who took to the social media platform to share their thoughts and opinions.
