Newcastle United reportedly want Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling to be their statement signing under the new multi-billionaire ownership.

The 26-year-old has an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium as the Mirror note that he’s ‘not resuming’ contract talks while his playing time remains diminished.

He’s having talks with Pep Guardiola over his role and will only sign a new deal when given assurances about future opportunities.

Newcastle would like to capitalise on the sitation and are now ‘watching over’ Sterling. The new Saudi-backed owners have serious ambition and have put together a 10-man shortlist of targets ahead of the upcoming transfer windows.

Newcastle United are now the richest club in the world after being taken over by Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media and have the financial firepower to spend big in the short term due to their previous low net spend.

According to Fichajes, the club’s new owners have already identified 10 high-profile targets, a list which includes Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling.

Sterling has started only four of the ten appearances he has made so far this campaign, bagging just under 500 minutes of footballing action, producing a mere one goal and assisting one.

Despite not being a first-choice at City, Sterling is still regarded as world-class forward with his impactful displays on the international stage coming to his rescue.

A number of other Premier League players are also being monitored, including Chelsea’s Timo Werner and Arsenal duo Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

Attempts to sign Gareth Bale and Luka Jovic will also be considered with Real Madrid known to be happy to offload both attackers.

Paris Saint-Germain may allegedly receive bids for Keylor Navas and Mauro Icardi, while Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho and Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman are also possibilities.

The report adds that the new owners want to make a statement signing during the January window.
