Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is preparing to hand attacker Ferran Torres a bumper new deal at the Etihad Stadium.
The Spain international is facing at least another couple of months out with a foot fracture, but he established himself as a key player under Pep Guardiola in the early stages of the campaign.
Torres is a fan favourite at the Etihad Stadium and a player Pep Guardiola has got a lot out of since landing in England last year. The winger has been converted into a centre-forward, and has impressed in the position
Torres struck two goals and set up one more in four Premier League matches before his injury, and City are supposedly set to reward his performances with a bumper pay rise.
According to the Daily Star, Torres is only earning £40k per week at the Etihad since joining from Valencia for £20m last year, but he can expect his wage to be bumped up to £100k per week with fresh terms.
The 21-year-old’s existing deal does not expire until the summer of 2025, but the report adds that City are keen to tie him down for an additional two years until 2027.
Torres has chalked up 16 goals and four assists in 43 games for the Premier League champions and struck both of Spain’s goals in their Nations League semi-final win over Italy earlier this month before coming off injured.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters, who took to the social media platform to share their thoughts and opinions.
