Paul Merson has predicted that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will win against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are currently placed fifth in the 2021-22 Premier League table with 17 points, three less than reigning champions City, who are in the third spot.
Despite Manchester United’s 3-0 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, the Red Devils have been on a poor run of form – particularly at Old Trafford – and the manager is still under huge pressure.
City, who will be eager to claim three points after losing to Crystal Palace last weekend, have failed to win any of the past four Manchester Derbies in the Premier League.
Sky Sports pundit believes that the defending Premier League champions, who ‘cannot afford to lose at Old Trafford’ will win 3-1.
“I don’t see where Manchester United are going to get the ball from in this game, and they could find themselves in another embarrassing situation this weekend,” Merson wrote via Sportskeeda.
“Manchester United have played on the counter with pace against Manchester City with good results in the past, but I don’t see how they can manage that with both Cavani and Ronaldo up front…”
“Manchester City also have a bit of a selection problem. It’s pretty hard to pick between Grealish, Foden, and Mahrez, and it’ll be interesting to see what Pep does this weekend”.
“It’s a big game for Manchester City – they’re already four points behind Chelsea and cannot afford to lose at Old Trafford.
“Liverpool tore Manchester United to shreds last week, and I don’t see anything other than a Manchester City victory here.”
