‘Give him freedom Pep’, ‘has to start scoring’ – Man City fans react as Guardiola speaks out on Jack Grealish goals struggles

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is pleased with Jack Grealish’s performance after 14 games but points out the room for improvement

Despite Guardiola having a constant desire to rotate his forward players, Grealish has actually played a lot of football since his move to the Etihad.

The 26-year-old has started in nine of City’s 10 Premier League games so far this term, as well as in all three of their Champions League ties so far.

However, though Man City have had a solid, if not spectacular, season to date, Grealish is actually struggling for goals. So far, the former Villa man has scored just twice in 14 outings across all competitions.

Grealish’s lack of goals, however, is not seemingly an issue for Pep Guardiola right now as he fits neatly with his masterplan of always having a man more than the opposition in key areas.

“His positions are always good and he plays really good from the football perspective,” Guardiola said after the Palace game.

“With the confidence and a little bit more time he will be aggressive to take his own decisions to score a goal. But when he gets the ball it always has sense with everything he does.

“He creates free men when he has the ball. Every time he has the ball Joao (Cancelo) and Rodri are alone and they can use him or do it the next time so in that time it’s really good.”

These Guardiola’s comments on Grealish goals struggles has prompt some Sky Blues to react on social media.

When a club spends a hundred million pounds on a footballer, fans tend to expect someone who does the lot — scores goals, makes them and is at the heart of all good things the team does.

So for some of the less patient City fans, Jack Grealish ’s first three months since his summer move have been a little underwhelming.
