Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is pleased with Jack Grealish’s performance after 14 games but points out the room for improvement
Despite Guardiola having a constant desire to rotate his forward players, Grealish has actually played a lot of football since his move to the Etihad.
The 26-year-old has started in nine of City’s 10 Premier League games so far this term, as well as in all three of their Champions League ties so far.
However, though Man City have had a solid, if not spectacular, season to date, Grealish is actually struggling for goals. So far, the former Villa man has scored just twice in 14 outings across all competitions.
Grealish’s lack of goals, however, is not seemingly an issue for Pep Guardiola right now as he fits neatly with his masterplan of always having a man more than the opposition in key areas.
“His positions are always good and he plays really good from the football perspective,” Guardiola said after the Palace game.
“With the confidence and a little bit more time he will be aggressive to take his own decisions to score a goal. But when he gets the ball it always has sense with everything he does.
“He creates free men when he has the ball. Every time he has the ball Joao (Cancelo) and Rodri are alone and they can use him or do it the next time so in that time it’s really good.”
These Guardiola’s comments on Grealish goals struggles has prompt some Sky Blues to react on social media.
This is the annoying thing about grealish. He never takes the shot on. He gets in good positions but never shoots https://t.co/vSzpy50ffJ

Grealish has to start scoring goals, he has a great shot he must take advantage of that, in Manchester City he must score more goals than he did in Aston Villa

Give him freedom Pep. He’s more effective when given license to move inside

With Pep’s system everyone needs time to settle. And some players even take a full season.

This is true, Salah joined Liverpool at 25 with a decent-good reputation fair enough he hit the ground running but who would have thought he’d evolve into what he has done given the evidence we had 21-24 https://t.co/PXVVIpMTaS

When a club spends a hundred million pounds on a footballer, fans tend to expect someone who does the lot — scores goals, makes them and is at the heart of all good things the team does.
So for some of the less patient City fans, Jack Grealish ’s first three months since his summer move have been a little underwhelming.
