Raheem Sterling has told Manchester City that he wants them to sanction a loan move to Barcelona in January, according to latest reports.
The England international has struggled to hold a key role in Pep Guardiola’s plans so far this season, and has only started six of his 15 appearances in all competitions.
Phil Foden’s development and the £100million arrival of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa has only further fuelled the belief that the 26-year-old will leave.
Sterling is reportedly frustrated with his lack of playing opportunities at the Etihad Stadium this season and is keen to ply his trade elsewhere, with Barcelona poised to make the deal happen.
With Sterling set to have just one year remaining on his contract come the summer, speculation around Sterling’s future has already begun to swirl with a handful of reports even indicating that the winger is open to the idea of moving to the Camp Nou.
The Sun reported this week that the Blues ‘seem unlikely’ to sanction a move for Sterling in January, with Pep Guardiola’s side still hoping the 26-year-old will commit to a new contract.
However, he continues to be talked about in the media amid uncertainty over his Manchester City future, with the latest claims suggesting the 26-year-old wants out in January.
According to 90min, Sterling have told Pep Guardiola he ‘wants a loan move in January’ as Barcelona are showing an ‘interest’.
it remains to be seen if he’ll be granted a temporary departure, with Pep Guardiola tired of being asked about Sterling’s future, having been quizzed in Barcelona last week.
During his pre-match press conference on Friday for the weekend’s Premier League match against Everton, a journalist broached the subject once more but the Spaniard was quick to decline to comment.
