‘Advantage PSG’, ‘We better not play Laporte’ – Some City fans can’t believe who will officiate CL game on Wednesday

Daniele Orsato will take charge of the match between Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

PSG claimed an important win over City in the last leg in the Champions League. Idrissa Gueye opened the scoring in the 8th minute and then Lionel Messi ensured all three points with a 74th minute winner.

The defeat was Manchester City’s first group stage defeat since their loss to another French giant Lyon back in 2018.

Pep Guardiola’s men dashed PSG’s Champions League hopes last season when they got the better of the French outfit over a two legged fixture in the semifinals.

With RB Leipzig and Club Brugge are the other teams in the group, and while Man City and PSG are in strong positions to qualify, they are still not confirmed to go through.

PSG are on 9 points with City on 8. Brugge have 4 points and if they beat RB Leipzig, things will get mighty interesting on matchday 6.

As Pep Guardiola’s side look to go one step further this time around, UEFA have confirmed on their official website that Daniele Orsato will officiate City’s match against PSG.

The 45 year-old has refereed 12 games so far this season – showing 77 yellow cards and two red cards.

Orsato last took charge of Manchester City in 2020, when the Blues came from behind to beat Real Madrid 2-1 in a memorable Champions League night at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Joining Orsato will be Assistant Referees Alessandro Giallatini and Fabiano Preti, Video Assistant Referee Marco Di Bello and Maurizio Mariani and Luca Pairetto the Fourth Official.

The news was shared on Twitter by City Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters, with many not pleased with the decision.
