Raheem Sterling, who has struggled for form recently with Manchester City, was able to remind doubters last night of his talent after bagging a goal in the UEFA Champions League.

The England international has struggled to hold a key role in Pep Guardiola’s plans so far this season, despite earning consistent minutes.

The 26-year-old has only started six of his 15 appearances in all competitions, including one in the Champions League and three in the Premier League.

Guardiola introduced Sterling off the bench at home to the Blauw-Zwart on Wednesday night. After coming off the substitutes’ bench, within minutes, he was on the scoresheet to secured City a 4-1 win over Club Brugge at the Etihad.

Sterling met Ilkay Gundogan’s low cross to beat Simon Mignolet for City’s third in the 72nd minute, his second goal of the season in all competitions.

The England forward did not celebrate his first goal City goal since August, perhaps out of relief after a difficult spell in and out of the side, but was congratulated by all of his outfield teammates.

With Sterling going so long without scoring a goal, some supporters on social media still can’t believe that the England star fired his name onto the scoresheet.

It has been a long and difficult couple of months in a Manchester City shirt for Sterling, though the hope will be that this first goal since August represents a fresh start.

He is now the fourth highest English scorer in Champions League history, his 22 goals behind only the tallies of Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes and Frank Lampard.

Here’s what some City fans had to say about Sterling’s goal in the Champions League on Twitter…
