Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club still want Raheem Sterling to sign a new contract as he enters the final 18 months of his current deal.
The England international has struggled to hold a key role in Pep Guardiola’s plans so far this season, and has only started six of his 15 appearances in all competitions.
The 26-year-old, who was an unused substitute in the Manchester derby against Manchester United on Saturday, has only managed two goals and two assists for the English champions this term.
Phil Foden’s development and the £100million arrival of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa has only further fuelled the belief that the 26-year-old will leave.
Sterling is reportedly frustrated with his lack of playing opportunities at the Etihad Stadium this season and is keen to ply his trade elsewhere, with Barcelona poised to make the deal happen.
With the 26-year-old remaining on the fringes, and set to have just one year remaining on his contract come the summer, speculation around Sterling’s future has already begun to swirl.
According to Jack Gaughan from the Daily Mail, Manchester City still want Raheem Sterling to sign a new contract as he enters the final 18 months of his current deal.
The report points out that Pep Guardiola’s side are always reluctant to do business in the winter window and hence, would be resistant to the idea of letting Sterling leave – even on a loan deal.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters, who took to the social media platform to share their thoughts and opinions.
I have absolutely no time for supporters who don’t want Raheem to stay. Every Champions League title contending club will be hounding this man’s agent in the summer if he doesn’t an extension. https://t.co/94VL3srdpR

I think we’ve seen the best of him. He’s had a good time at City and maybe a change would be good for all concerned.

Guys we have to appreciate all that Raz has done for us, but sometimes we need to see if maybe his cycle is over and that’s ok 🤷🏽♂️

Ive lost patience with him but nostalgia always beats me. I dont know when I will stop telling myself he can still do it, I believe he still can on that right side of the pitch bursting past defenders…
