Manchester City are among the clubs in contention to sign wantaway Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix.
Joao Felix is looking for an escape route from his La Liga hell, according to reports. So far this season he has scored once and provided two assists in 12 appearances across all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side.
The Portuguese star became the Spanish club’s most expensive ever signing when he arrived in a €126 million transfer from Benfica back in 2019.
But he’s struggled to live up to expectations and has been ravaged by injuries during his two-and-a-half-year stint at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Despite his struggles in the Spanish capital outfit, Felix still has plenty of suitors, and according to Fichajes, City are among the clubs in contention to sign the Portuguese forward.
The report states that the ex-Benfica wonderkid is apparently unhappy with Diego Simeone and wants to leave the club in an attempt to revive his career, putting multiple top clubs across Europe on red alert.
Felix is under contract at the Wanda Metropolitano until the summer of 2026, so Atletico are not even remotely worried about losing him as it stands, but Felix’s agents are working on finding a way to get the forward out of the club.
It’s no secret that Pep Guardiola’s are in the market for a new striker after losing Sergio Aguero in the summer, increasing the likelihood of a high-profile name arriving at the Etihad Stadium in 2022.
The Cityzens have been recently linked with big money moves for Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, but a move for either player could trigger a world record fee, with City reportedly eyeing other options ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Joao Felix could prove to be an ideal target for Manchester City in January, especially amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Ferran Torres, who has been linked with a move to FC Barcelona.
It will certainly be interesting to see if Manchester City are successful in their bid to land the Portuguese forward, having failed to do so once before his move to Athletico Madrid.
