Jack Grealish said he has found it a lot more difficult to adapt to life at Manchester City than he thought it would be, as England’s most expensive player prepares to face former club Aston Villa.
Grealish joined City from Villa in August for a league record 100 million pounds but has made a relatively slow start at his new club with two goals and three assists in 15 appearances.
The 26-year-old was benched for the Manchester derby before suffering an injury with England that is likely to deny him a start on his return to Villa.
Grealish himself admitted in an interview ahead of the game that he has struggled with his new environment.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph Grealish said: “I’ve got so much more to give [to Man City]. I’ve found it a lot more difficult than I thought I would, adapting to a different manager and team-mates”.
“At first I thought I’d have more of the ball, get more assists/goals but it doesn’t work like that at all. I’ve had nowhere near as much of the ball as I used to get at Villa.”
“I wouldn’t say I’ve struggled, but I found it hard to get used to at the start. I’ve not had the assists and goals I got last season, but I’m never one to doubt myself.”
These Grealish’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters.
He’ll be his best next season, city fans should know this with players under pep https://t.co/1EfQrmjP3L

Ballon D’or is a bit too much. He’ll come around for us though.

Seems harsh but in an elite squad that’s how it is, until you prove yourself to be that guy everyone can rely on. He can turn his career around if he starts playing as a midfielder https://t.co/e58TQCqqOd

I suppose this is to be expected when a player is thrust into a new team with a complex, and very different, set up to your previous team. But I think Grealish has been doing fine in the main and has had a positive start with us https://t.co/iBFC4lXb4l
