Transfer insider Dean Jones reckons that Manchester City could try and sign Joao Felix as an alternative to Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.
It’s no secret that Pep Guardiola’s are in the market for a new striker after losing Sergio Aguero in the summer, increasing the likelihood of a high-profile name arriving at the Etihad Stadium in 2022.
The Cityzens have been recently linked with big money moves for Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, but a move for either player could trigger a world record fee, with City reportedly eyeing other options ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Jones reckons there is a strong attraction to Felix at the Etihad Stadium as an alternative to Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.
“Manchester City have seriously looked at Joao Felix for some time,” he told GiveMeSport.
“If their main plans – Kane and Haaland – don’t work out, it would not surprise me at all to see them try to sign the Atletico Madrid star instead.”
“People close to the situation have left me in no doubt about how much he is admired within City.”
The €60m-rated star has failed to live up to the huge expectations on his shoulders after moving to the Wanda Metropolitano two-and-a-half years ago, making the majority of his appearances from the bench.
The Portuguese youngster showcased his undeniable talent during Wednesday night’s [February 23] 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the first leg of their round of 16 UEFA Champions League clash.
Earlier this month The Athletic reported City have tried to sign Felix on three separate occasions before.
If Man City were to make a move for Felix in the summer, he won’t come cheap, with Atletico looking to recoup as much of the £120 million they spent on the 22-year-old back in 2019.
Felix has registered five goals and five assists in 25 matches for the La Liga champions this season and is not due to become a free agent until the summer of 2026.
