‘Not this again’, ‘Just let him go, We’re tired’ – Many Man City fans react to 27-year-old Star’s Comments On his Future

Bernardo Silva has given a further indication that he is unhappy at Manchester City by stating that he could leave the club in ‘one or two years’.

The 27-year-old Portuguese was heavily linked with leaving the Etihad Stadium last summer, with Arsenal and Barcelona both hoping to land him but no move materialised.

City did not receive any acceptable bids for Bernardo, however, so the Portuguese midfielder has remained at the Etihad this season and has shown signs of his very best form since joining the club.

This season, Silva has been one of Manchester City’s best players, and the prospect of him leaving must be upsetting for manager Pep Guardiola and fans.

It has been reported in recent months that Manchester City will hold discussions over a contract extension with Bernardo Silva at the end of the ongoing campaign

Now, Silva has spoken about how much he misses his home country, Portugal and has offered a timeframe on when he could leave City, opening up on the possibility that it could be before his current deal expires in 2025.

Speaking to Channel 11 (via Daily Mail), Silva said: “I miss Portugal a lot. If I could go back in a year or two, I would. Not only because I would like to play for Benfica again, but because I miss my family and living in Portugal very much.”

Reflecting on his desire to leave City last summer in an interview earlier this month, Silva said: “I was feeling a little bit alone at the time in England and I wasn’t very happy with my life.

“And if you’re not happy, you don’t do your job as well as you do when you are happy. I was well physically, but if you don’t do your job with a smile on your face, you’re not going to do it as well.

“I had a talk with the club because I wasn’t happy with my life here, and I wanted to be closer to my family.

“But it (wanting to leave) had nothing to do with the club. I love Manchester City. I love my team-mates, I love the fans, I love the club. Afterwards, nothing happened. I stayed, and I will always give my best for this club as long as I stay here.”

These Bernardo’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters, with many hoping to see him extend his stay at the club.

“Why is there hate for this? He’s homesick, that can happen. Loves the club, but wants to go home. He’s also said in a year or 2. I’d take a couple more years of Silva. I thought he might go this summer so 2 more years is awesome. Plus the academy lads will be ready by then. Trust.”
