Manchester City-linked midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has emphasized he doesn’t need to play for elite clubs to cement his position in the France National Team.

The AS Monaco star, who has been closely linked with a move to the Etihad in recent months, is one of the hottest properties in European football and has been making significant strides in recent months.

The 22-year-old’s future has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, with Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claiming that there is interest from Real Madrid, while two Premier League clubs and Paris Saint-Germain are also admirers of the midfielder.

With Fernandinho set to leave the Etihad this summer following the expiry of his contract, a number of Man City supporters have identified Tchouameni as potential long-term successor for the Brazilian International. He is a solid defensive-minded midfielder and has energy in abundance to get up and down the pitch.

Following a string of fine performances for Monaco, he has become a regular in the France squad in recent months, earning eight caps following his debut in September against Bosnia. He also netted his first goal for his country on Friday, scoring in a 2-1 friendly triumph over the Ivory Coast.

Aurelien Tchouameni has emphasized he does not feel he has to sign for a top European club such Manchester City in order to become a regular fixture within Didier Deschamps’ France squad.

“You don’t necessarily have to play for Real (Madrid) or Manchester City to play for the France team,” the 22-year-old said in an interview last week, as quoted by Baptiste Durieux.

“AS Monaco is not an obstacle for me to continue playing with Les Bleus (the France National Team). I’m very good with AS Monaco.”

These Aurelien Tchouameni’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
