Report: Barcelona, PSG, Juventus interested in signing Manchester City winger

Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez is being targeted by the likes of Barcelona, PSG and Juventus ahead of the summer transfer window, according to a new report.

Mahrez has been one of the most enigmatic attackers in the Premier League over the past half a dozen years. The Algeria star first rose to prominence when he delivered an unfathomable Premier League title for Leicester City in the 2015/16 season. Since joining Manchester City in July 2018, he has taken his game up a notch.

The 31-year-old has been in ‘sparkling’ form for Manchester City this season and is their leading goalscorer with 21 goals in 35 matches in all competitions.

However, with less than 18 months left on the Algerian’s existing deal at the Etihad Stadium, reports have claimed that a number of elite European clubs are monitoring Mahrez’s contract situation in Manchester ahead of a potential departure in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Riyad Mahrez is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window.

Barça are keeping tabs on his situation and could decide to make a move by spending the money that was initially allocated to sign Haaland. That is because Barcelona’s pursuit of Haaland has ended amid competition from Manchester City and Real Madrid.

It has further been revealed that Barcelona’s interest in Mahrez stems from the uncertainty surrounding the future of Ousmane Dembele, and the fact the Algerian International can combine seamlessly with Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati in the final third.

The La Liga club will face intense competition from Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus in the race to sign the 31-year-old from Manchester City.

Reports in England revealed last month that Mahrez is very keen to commit his long-term future to Manchester City, who want to tie down the forward to a fresh contract as a reward for his exemplary displays in attack since his arrival to Manchester three-and-a-half years ago.

However, it has now been stated that the lack of any major developments in an extension for Mahrez at Manchester City so far could boost Barca’s hopes of landing the three-time Premier League winner in the summer.
