Barcelona have been urged to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko next season by his former Manchester City teammate Ferran Torres.
FC Barcelona are preparing for a busy summer ahead, and have been in contention to sign a multitude of talented left-backs across La Liga, including Jose Gaya and Alex Moreno. They are reportedly keeping tabs on RB Leipzig starlet Angelino as well.
Ferran Torres has played with Zinchenko for merely a season and a half. But he appears to have built a good relationship with the Ukrainian and is backing him to succeed at Camp Nou.
That according to a recent report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, who claims Torres has suggested Xavi’s side to considering signing left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko.
The former Manchester City man believes the Ukrainian international has the right qualities to emerge as an ideal long-term replacement for Jordi Alba.
Zinchenko joined the Citizens back in 2016 following a modest £1.6m move from Russian side FK Ufa. Though he was initially signed as a left-winger and attacking midfielder, Guardiola adapted his game and converted him into a left-back and Zinchenko has gone on to establish himself as a key member of City’s squad.
However, the 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola this season, and has found first-team minutes difficult to come by since regaining fitness following a calf injury as Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker currently occupy starting positions in Pep Guardiola’s XI.
The Ukraine International has been linked with potential moves to the likes of Newcastle United, Real Betis and Genoa in recent months.
Whether or not Barcelona go ahead and make a move for Zinchenko this summer remains to be seen. It is understood that He is determined to stay with the club and earn a new deal at the Etihad Stadium.
