Report: Manchester City set £80m price tag for Barcelona target loved by Pep Guardiola

Manchester City will reportedly listen to offers of £80m for Raheem Sterling this summer, with Barcelona believed to be one team who hold an interest in the England international.

City are set to reinforce their squad ahead of the 2022-23 season, with a new centre-forward seemingly high on the agenda, and while the cash could be splashed on new additions, a number of first-team players could be heading for the exit door.

According to the Daily Star, the reigning Premier League champions are open to offloading an attacker in the transfer window with Pep Guardiola set to bring in a natural centre-forward, with one of Sterling or Gabriel Jesus likely to depart Manchester.

The two players are yet to agree new contracts at City, and as per the report, Sterling could depart the Premier League giants if a club meets the £80m valuation for the 27-year-old attacker.

The Daily Star have previously reported that Barcelona are one of the clubs chasing Sterling, with 90min also confirming recently that the Catalan giants remain interested in his services ahead of a potential swoop at the end of the current campaign.

A potential contract extension, however, cannot be ruled out with Pep Guardiola having previously expressed how important the forward is in his first-team squad, despite the arrival of £100m man Jack Grealish last summer.

If Sterling was to reject City’s proposals, the club would have a big decision to make as the England international could sign a pre-contract with an overseas club in January.

After a spell out of the starting lineup at the back end of last season, which sparked speculation over his future, Sterling has since been a first-team regular for City this season, scoring 14 goals and registering five assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Though Sterling’s future remains uncertain with his contract set to expire in 2023, the only likely departures this summer appear to be Fernandinho and Scott Carson whose deals both end at the end of the season. But they could well be handed new deals yet.
