‘They can keep dreaming’, ‘He ain’t downgrading’ – Many fans react as Chelsea ‘plotting an ambitious move for Man City star’

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Chelsea have set their sights on signing Riyad Mahrez next summer.

The 31-year-old Algeria star has been in ‘sparkling’ form for Manchester City this season and is their leading goalscorer with 21 goals in 33 matches in all competitions.

The Algerian winger full array of talent was on show last Sunday in the Manchester derby, where he bagged a brace against United at the Etihad.

He executed a perfect half volley to put City 3-1 upfront, before smashing the ball into the net, via David De Gea’s face, to round a comprehensive win in the divided city.

Mahrez’s current contract expires in 16 months and Manchester City face a dilemma over handing him new terms or letting him leave him.

According to Foot Mercato as relayed by Sport Witness, Chelsea are ‘keenly interested’ in Mahrez, with the Algerian available for around €40million (£33.2m) in the summer transfer window.

However, Paris Saint-Germain per the report are also said to be interested in Mahrez as they look to sign a replacement for Angel Di Maria, with the Argentine looking set to leave in the summer.

The report states both Chelsea and PSG have reportedly ‘been working on the subject for several weeks’ and that his contract situation makes an operation affordable.

In reaction to the reports shared on Twitter by City Xtra, many Man City fans have been expressing their thoughts and opinions.
