‘He shouldn’t take that job’, ‘That’s too early’ – Many Man City fans react as Kompany emerges as surprise candidate for PL managerial position

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Vincent Kompany has emerged as a contender to become the next permanent manager of Burnley.

Since Sean Dyche departed earlier this month, interim boss Mike Jackson has delivered seven points from three matches, moving the Clarets outside of the Premier League relegation zone.

However, regardless of their top-flight fate, the job is attracting high-profile interest with Derby County’s Wayne Rooney said to be tempted by the position.

According to Mike McGrath of the Telegraph, Kompany is also very much in the running to succeed Dyche after spending two years in his native Belgium with Anderlecht.

The 36-year-old has recorded 40 victories and just 17 defeats from 87 matches in charge, posting fourth and third-placed finishes in the league and reaching the domestic cup final, only to lose out to Gent on penalties.

Although Kompany still has two years remaining on his contract, his return to English football could suit all parties, but a decision may not be made by Burnley until their status ahead of 2022-23 is known.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from Man City supporters.

“He’d be very good for burnley but it would mean a change of identity for burnley & change in recruitment process cause vincent works with young players and he’s very attacking in his play style. It would be quite a sight to see Pep go up against vincent. make it happn.”

“Unless he’s told he’ll be backed in the transfer market i wouldn’t bother, that was the problem Dyche had despite the success he had they never really have him a proper backing transfer wise.”
