‘No way!’, ‘Not for sale’, ‘won’t downgrade’ – Man City fans react as AC Milan have made €40m-rated star their ‘first objective’ this summer

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Riyad Mahrez is the ‘first objective’ for AC Milan in the coming months.

The 31-year-old has been one of the most enigmatic attackers in the Premier League over the past half a dozen years. He has been in ‘sparkling’ form this season and is their leading goalscorer with 23 goals in 43 matches in all competitions.

However, with less than 18 months left on the Algerian’s existing deal at the Etihad Stadium, reports have claimed that a number of elite European clubs are monitoring Mahrez’s contract situation in Manchester ahead of a potential departure in the summer.

With Milan on the verge of being bought by a Bahrain backed fund, there could be some heavy investment emanating from San Siro this summer, and Mahrez is said to be a target for them.

According to Tuttosport as relayed by Sport Witness, the Algeria international is the ‘first objective’ for AC Milan in the coming months.

The report claims Man City, regardless of his contractual situation, would ask for a ‘demanding cost’, but ‘not too much over €40M’.

In reaction to the reports shared on Twitter by City Xtra, many Man City fans have been expressing their thoughts and opinions.

“Selling him for 40M despite his age is ridiculous, even if you don’t want to build with Mahrez in mind he’s got over 30 goal contributions and is one of our few decent penalty takers. Selling him for 40M does nothing for us..”

Manchester City just aren’t a ‘selling club’. There’s a difference between not wanting to stand in the way of a player who’s heart is elsewhere, or allowing a player to find better opportunities, and needing to sell because a player is running out of contract and losing ‘value’.”

“His choice, ultimately. He wants to stay, good. He wants to get a final payday, also good.”
