‘Yesssss’, ‘Perfect!’, ‘No need for an expensive backup’ – Man City fans react to the Club’s stance on £100m Declan Rice transfer reports

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club have no interest in signing West Ham United’s Declan Rice this season.

The 23-year-old is regarded among the best midfielders in the country, with his performances for both West Ham and England having been consistently superb for some time now.

The Midfield star could spark a bidding war as he is reportedly a target of Manchester United and Chelsea this summer, with West Ham facing a battle to hang onto the £100million-rated midfielder.

Reports in recent days have suggested that Rice has turned down a third contract offer from the Hammers, with his deal due to expire in the summer of 2024.

As a result, Man City have been credited with a transfer interest in the West Ham captain.

City may need a new central midfielder if Fernandinho leaves and Rice looks ideal to replace the Brazilian at the Etihad Stadium. The midfielder said this month that he will return to Brazil rather than sign a new City contract into next season.

So targeting a new midfielder will be a priority in the near future after a striker is signed. Reports this week suggested that Pep Guardiola’s side are set to join the race for Rice this summer along with Manchester United.

However, BBC journalist Mike Minay has quickly quashed these reports by claiming City have NO interest in signing Rice from West Ham this summer.

In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Xtra, many Man City fans have have been expressing their thoughts and opinions.

“No need for an expensive backup… Rodri is our guy. Just need a younger one with potential willing to learn behind Rodri, or a good veteran DM willing to accept the backup role.”

“Thank goodness. Hopefully we get the cheaper option in Enzo Fernández.”

“I do beleive this, we just don’t need him. Rodri is one of the best in the world at the same position capable of playing 80% of the games in the year. Would not make sense at all to spend 100 mil on a player to “push him”.”

“I thought this would be the case, we have Rodri and there is no way City will pay £100m+ for a backup or rotation player in that spot.”

“Yeah not better than Rodri but far too good (and expensive) to be rotation player. Hope we sign Enzo Fernández.”

“Good don’t want another Harry Kane saga + he’s not worth even remotely close to 150m”
